Manages:
The Employment Specialist will work with people/persons with a disability, specifically, ASD/Intellectual Disabilities to provide services to our trainees in order to move to the next step which will include paid employment and true independence.
Overview of Responsibilities and Duties:
The primary goal and duty of the Employment Specialist is to provide a job coach experience while working with persons with a disability in order to provide services and to move to the next step which will include paid employment.
Employment Specialist Duties and Functions:
Will provide assessments and guidance regarding personal choices for employment while assessing each trainee while providing feedback on potential jobs in the community.
The Employment Specialist will foster and build relationships within the business community while simultaneously providing training to participating employers and other employees in the business about the specific strengths and weaknesses of the trainees.
The Employment Specialist will attend the job with the trainees with the goal of eventually fading out while still providing frequent visits (as needed and determined by the Specialist as well as the team).
Monthly classes will be conducted by the Specialist to provide the disabled with additional skills sets such as finances, self advocacy, life skills and social skills.
This is meant to serve as a supplement to the employee in order to assist with life skills in order to decrease and break down the barrier to independence.
Collection and preparation of data and information is critical for the success of the grant.
Written assessments will be required as part of the grant requirement.
Collection and preparation of data reports and information will be required.
Providing transportation may be necessary, therefore a clean driving record is necessary (obtain five year drivers record from DMV) and required.
Additional Skills Required:
Excellent written, communication and organizational skills.
Solid ability to sell our program and our employees to prospective employers.
Ability to effectively communicate with persons with disabilities and their families.
Must be able to multi-task and work under pressure and deadlines Teaching and instructional abilities are important to the success of this job.
Employment Specialist must have excellent business connections and sound reputation within the community.
Attend all Level 10 team and administration meetings as required.
Create and maintain professional relationships with families, program participants, staff, interns, volunteers, and community partners.
Demonstrate all SOS Core values.
Communicate and report any problems or issues directly to the Program Manager in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.
SOS Expectations:
Employment Specialist is expected to follow all rules and guidelines as presented in the SOS Care Policy Manual and to abide by the designated, Mission, Vision, and Core Value Statement.
The Program Manager will annually monitor performance and duties above and deliver a performance review at least annually.
Qualifications:
Employment Specialist will have a University Degree in a related field, experience in working with people who have disabilities or equivalent experience in related field.
Working knowledge and experience in the area of non-profit management.
Multitasking and attention to detail are a must.
Working knowledge of inter-agency practices and a strong background in both written and oral communication is necessary as well as proficiency in word processing.
The individual must possess the ability to work independently and to take the lead in difficult situations.
A general understand of Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities is important to the individuals understand of the goals and mission of SOS Care as it relates to the intent of the Board of Directors.
Expectations:
It is the responsibility of the Employment Specialist to maintain open communication with the Program Manager via phone, written, or electronic correspondence on a regular basis.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
